A Static Lullaby "A Static Lullaby" review
Long live A Static Lullaby.Following up to their 2005 release "
Faso Latido", the melodic hardcore outfit is back with their distinct brand of screamo, blistering drummings and impressive riffs aplenty. Packed with nothing but raw, raging energy, opening track "
Hang Em' High" shatters ear drums with its catchy melody and hard-hitting guitar riffs. "
The Art Of Sharing Lovers" earns an immediate thumbs-up - fans will definitely put it on their list of 'songs I can't wait to see live'. (Both songs are currently on their
myspace.) A couple of tracks "
Contagious" and "
The Collision" give me that certain Saosin/Underoath hybrid vibe - something we all find too familiar and derivative today. Nonetheless, the sheer hard work put in this record is evident; it does not disappoint and the band reaffirms their reputation as a strong, tight outfit, balancing a fine mix of heavy, guitar-driven tracks (the excellent "
Annexation Of Puerto Rico", "
Trigger Happy Tarantula"), the frenzied "
Stare At The Air", punked-up "
Static Slumber Party" and the emotionally charged closing track "
Mechanical Heart" - no track skipping needed; the whole point is to make you jump around and bounce off walls from start to finish.
Joe Brown and co. have overcome the odds. I enjoyed this album thoroughly - a noble effort from the band; they stay unfazed despite recent member changes and unpleasant experiences with Columbia.
A Static Lullaby have clearly risen from the ashes and scream for more attention with this record - they definitely remain one of the most consistent, unadulterated hardcore acts today. Highly recommended.
(4 out of 5 stars)Their self-titled album comes out on 10 October via
Fearless Records.
